Leaves are changing colors and the weather is getting cooler. Autumn can be a pretty time of year, but it also brings some dangers to your toddlers. Our preschools in Chapel Hill, Durham, and Greenville want all of our preschoolers to stay safe and healthy so here are a few things to watch out this fall to keep your kids safe and healthy, so you can enjoy the season.
Cold weather can make kids want to stay inside and hibernate. Be sure that kids stay active, even if they just want to stay inside. You can make fun activities outside like raking up a pile of leaves and letting them jump in them, or give them their own child-size rake and let them help you. Whether you’re indoors or outdoors, find activities to stay active.
Mornings especially can be chilly, even if the afternoon is hot and sunny. Dress your preschooler in layers. As the weather warms up or cools down, they can add or take off layers to stay comfortable. Check the weather before leaving in the morning so you can dress your preschooler appropriately.
Watch for sickness. With cooler weather comes the flu. Stock up on the fluids, vitamin C, tissues, and hand sanitizer. Be sure your whole family is washing their hands frequently to keep from spreading early sickness germs. Drink plenty of fluids to help stay hydrated and get plenty of vitamin C.
Fall and winter means that the air is drier than in spring and summer months. With the drier air, houses and outdoors are more prone to catching fire. Be sure to replace the batteries in fire alarms, make sure you have fire extinguishers, and teach your preschooler to practice fire safety tips.
Keeping these tips in mind allows everyone to enjoy the beauty that autumn brings. Our 5-star child care centers are here to help your entire family stay safe and healthy, no matter what season it is.
